Practical tips for setup, scoring, and sharing on Apple Watch.

Tip 1

Install and first-time use

After first installation, there may be a couple of short delays. The app is initializing Apple Watch Activities features for the first time. Give it a few seconds to finish. Be sure to accept the recommended health features to record your workout stats.

Tip 2

Understanding roles in the app

The scorekeeper is always on Team A. If playing doubles, their partner is also on Team A. The team without the scorekeeper is always on Team B.

Tip 3

Keep SmashTap on screen

Set your watch to stay on SmashTap instead of returning to the clock face. Go to Watch Settings → General → Return to Clock, scroll to SmashTap, choose Custom, then select After 1 Hour.

Tip 4

Recording a workout as scorekeeper or viewer

Toggle on Record Workout when you start your first game and leave it on for the rest of the session. If you’re not the scorekeeper, toggle it on when you join your first game, then leave it on for the rest of the session either way. Remember to select END WORKOUT from the Game Menu when your session is over.

Tip 5

Use SmashTap workout for quickest scoring and viewing

Recording your workout in a different app puts that app in the dominant position on your watch, so both scoring and checking the score take extra taps to get back to SmashTap. For the smoothest experience, record your workout in SmashTap itself — it uses Apple Watch’s Pickleball workout type.

Tip 6

Live Sharing and Scoreboard

You have three ways to share your live score. 1) The fastest way to display your score is with the SmashTap iPhone app’s scoreboard. Mirror the scoreboard to an AirPlay display for a larger scoreboard. 2) Although still in BETA testing, a QR code can be scanned on the SmashTap Apple Watch app to open a scoreboard on a display that has an internet connection. 3) Also still in BETA testing, sharing with other players’ Apple Watch SmashTap apps by sharing the code from your Apple Watch SmashTap app if you each have an internet connection.

Tip 7

Turn on Do Not Disturb

Receiving messages or other pop-ups on your watch during a match will interrupt the flow of scorekeeping on your watch. Turning on Do Not Disturb will ensure your score can easily be updated with a tap between rallies.
